• Michael Farmer, Baron Farmer’s father, David S. Farmer, was a metal trader was wounded in World War II. When Michael was four years old, his father died due to alcoholism.

• In an interview, Michael mentioned that he and his sister did not get their mother’s care due to her own struggle with alcohol. When Farmer was 25 years old, his mother also died.

• In 1989, he founded Metal & Commodity Company Ltd trading company, which was a subsidiary of German metal trader Metallgesellschaft AG. Later, that company became the world’s largest trader in physical copper and nickel. Framer served its CEO from 1989 to 2000.

• In 2000 he sold Metal & Commodity Company Ltd to the trading company Enron for $448 million. Enron renamed it Enron Metals.

• For the next two years, Farmer took the break from his work and studied Bible.

• In 2005, Michael Farmer became a founding partner and CEO of the Red Kite Group of hedge funds, which provides mine finance and futures investment opportunities for funds. The firm, operating under RK Capital Management.

• Under Farmer’s leadership as chief executive, RK Capital Management expanded rapidly, achieving assets under management exceeding $1 billion by 2012.

• In 2011, Michael stepped into politics and joined Conservative Party. From 2011 to 2015, he served as the co-treasurer of the Conservative Party

• In 2015, he became member of the Select Committee on Social Mobility, and the Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill.

• In 2017, Farmer was appointed as a vocal supporter of welfare and prison reform in United Kingdom. The United Kingdom Ministry of Justice (MoJ) comissioned him to carry out a review and make a report of how supporting men in prison to have better family and other relationships can reduce reoffending rates.

• After the acceptance of his first recommendations, The Farmer Review (2017), the MoJ commissioned a further review and report from Lord Farmer on the importance of relationships for female offenders’ rehabilitation, The Farmer Review for Women (2019), was also implemented.

• During Brexit campaign (the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union), Farmer showed active participations.

• At the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, he donated £300,000 to the Vote Leave campaign.

• In 2016, he became the Christian deputy chair and trustee of the Council of Christians and Jews.

• Michael Farmer sponsors the Ark All Saints Academy in Camberwell in South London, which supports education for disadvantaged children in London.

• In 2019, Farmer co- founded the Family Hubs Network to support the spread of Family Hubs across the United Kingdom.

• He also introduced Private Member’s Bill in th parliamnent. According to that bill the governement must check how new policies and spending affect families. Additionally, it should keeps track of family stability rates such as how many children grow up with both their parents.

• Farmer was against the views of his daughter-in-law, politician Candace Owens, on antisemitism and the Gaza war. One of his tweet alos went viral, in which he wrote,

In view of public comments from a high-profile member of my family, I want to put my own views on antisemitism and Israel’s current military campaign in Gaza on public record.
