- He played for the Punjab cricket team and was selected to the Under-19 Indian squad as a youngster.
- He played in six under-19 ODIs, taking nine wickets off 14.11 average, two wickets in two under-19 Tests.
- In his only youth appearance in Test cricket, he bowled out former Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera.
- Gill picked up nine wickets in five innings at an average of 9.44 in the 2007 tri-series in Sri Lanka featuring Sri Lanka Under-19 and Bangladesh Under-19.
