Some Lesser Known Facts About Eileen Wang

• Politician Eileen Wang was born in China. Her father was a doctor and was later at the University of Southern California, and her mother practised acupuncture.

• Around the year 2000, Wang relocated to Arcadia, USA. Wang developed her career as a teacher and community activist.

• She continued to serve her communities by remaining active in organizations such as Arcadia Lions Club and Arcadia Association of Realtors.

• She was president of American Southwest Chamber of Commerce USA from 2018 to 2022.

• She was also involved in running a website targeting the Chinese community in the region, called U.S. News Center, from 2020 to 2022 with her then fiancé, Yaoning “Mike” Sun.

• Sun served as Wang’s campaign manager in 2022 when she ran for the Arcadia City Council. Hilda Solis, Judy Chu and Mike Eng endorsed the campaign, which raised 119,000 dollars.

• The campaign was receiving money from the Los Angeles branch of Sing Tao US, a foreign agent registered in the United States since 2021, according to campaign finance records.

• Sing Tao US said Wang’s campaign finance forms were bogus and they didn’t make the contribution.

• Wang had previously been a Republican, but in 2022, she switched allegiance to the Democratic party and voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

• Wang, who represented the 3rd district, was elected and sworn in to serve on the Arcadia City Council on 6 December 2022.

• In 2025 she was mayor pro tem. She took office as the mayor of Arcadia on 13 February 2026 with the ousting of the outgoing mayor, Sharon Kwan.

• From 2020 to 2022, Wang allegedly was directed by Chinese government officials to post pro-China content on U.S. News Center and never disclosed that she was linked to the Chinese government to the public, according to federal prosecutors.

• The website resembled a typical news site, containing news articles and propaganda. Wang and Sun were handed articles from the PRC government and they published these articles on the site through WeChat.

• On one such occasion, Wang sent an article to a PRC official with a screenshot of the view counts, 15,128 times. The official replied, “Great” and Wang replied, “Thank you leader”.

• In December 2025, Sun was arrested for being an illegal agent working on behalf of the Communist Party of China.

• He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to four years federal prison in February 2026. On 11 May 2026, Federal authorities unsealed Wang’s plea agreement.

• She is charged with one count of violation of Section 951 of the United States Code, for acting as an unlawful foreign agent.

• On the same day, Wang appeared in federal court in Los Angeles.

• The city’s letter of resignation from Arcadia, signed by her, was submitted to Arcadia City Hall on the morning of 11 May, and she said that the decision to resign indicated her resignation was based on personal reasons and did not reference the criminal case.

•  The plea agreement is continuing to fight back against the Chinese efforts to sway the country and they covertly act on behalf of foreign governments,” said First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli.

• Councilwoman Sharon Kwan, who previously served as the mayor of the city, said she didn’t come out of the blue.

• Kwan said she’d attempted to raise questions about what Wang was doing at city council meetings, but without success.

• City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto said he is “deeply troubled” by the allegations from a foreign government that it is trying to influence a local elected official.
