  • Sarpreet Singh was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand to a Punjabi immigrant parent. His parents belong to Jalandhar, Punjab, who runs a a grocery store in Auckland.
  • In an interview, Singh revealed that he grew up in a close knit family along with his elder brother and a sister. He said,

I’m from a very typical Punjabi family with a lot of uncles and aunties and cousins. We always used to play backyard cricket, a bit of basketball.”

  • In his childhood, he tried several sports; however, football was his first love. He grew up playing for local club, Onehunga Sports under the advice of long-term mentor Hiroshi Miyazawa.
  • In 2000, at the age of ten, Singh represented Auckland at the Australian National Futsal Championships, where he won the most valuable player award and attracting interest from Premier League side Everton.
  • In 2015, Singh made his international debut, at the OFC U-17 Championship and playing for the New Zealand under-17 side. In the tournament he impressed then-Phoenix coach, Ernie Merrickhe, and signed with Wellington Phoenix, a professional football club based in Wellington, New Zealand.

  • In that season, he made twelve appearances that season, and on 7 February 2016, he being marked by a call-up to the senior Wellington Phoenix squad for an A-League match against Perth Glory; however, he remained an unused substitute in the tournament.

On 6 July 2019, he made a friendly debut for the reserve side, where he scored the opening goal for Bayern Munich II against FC Liefering 2–1. He became the first Indian origin footballer signed by Bayern Munich.

  • On 31 July 2019, in the 2019 Audi Cup final, Singh played his first game for Bayern Munich, where he played the full match and scored in a penalty shoot-out.
  • In 2020, Singh joined another Germany professional football club, 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg on a season-long loan. On 19 September 2020, he made his first league start for the club against Jahn Regensburg. However, after playing a dozen games for Nürnberg, Singh cut his loan short and returned to Bayern Munich.
  • On 6 July 2021, Sarpreet joined 2. Bundesliga side SSV Jahn Regensburg on a season-long loan.
  • On 27 July 2022, he extended his contract with Bayern Munich for an additional year and joined SSV Jahn Regensburg for another season-long loan.
  • In July 2023, after four years, he left Bayern Munich and joined 2. Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock for a three-year contractfor an undisclosed fee.
  • However, on 6 June 2024, Hansa Rostock official confirmed that Singh would be departing the club after his contract was nullified after the club was moved down to the 3. Liga.
  • On 27 August 2024, he signed a contract with União de Leiria, a Portuguese professional football club based in Leiria. He signed the contract initially for one season, with an option for two more.
  • In July 2025, Sarpreet signed for TSC, a Serbian professional football club based in Bačka Topola for Serbian Super Liga tournament.

  • In February 2026, he returned to Wellington Phoenix on loan until the end of the 2025–26 season.
  • In 13 February 2026, he played his first match against Western Sydney Wanderers after his return to Wellington Phoenix; however, later he was substituted due to a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to him.
  • In May 2026, Sarpreet Singh came into news after he was selected in New Zealand’s swaud for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and become one of the few footballers of Indian heritage to reach football’s biggest tournament.
