Some Lesser Known Facts About Pravesh Wahi

• Pravesh Wahi was born and raised in New Delhi.

• Wahi comes from a Punjabi Khatri family that migrated from Rawalpindi, Pakistan during India Pakistan partition era in 1947.

• In an interview, Pravesh mentioned that while studying at a primary school of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in Old Delhi, he gained experience to study the civic system of Delhi.

• Before joining any political party, Wahi started working at grassroot level and associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

• In 1990, he Vishva Hindu Parishad andappo inted as an area representative. His position helped his entry into public organisational work.

• In 1998, he became district president of Vishva Hindu Parishad.

• In 2002, Pravesh Wahi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha, where he worked actively in different organisational roles.

• In 2007, Wahi was first elected as a councillor from Rohini (then Naharpur ward).

• Between 2012 and 2017 he served multiple terms and represented wards such as Naharpur.

• During his tenure, he held several key positons, including chairman of the Rohini zonal committee between 2010 and 2012.

• From 2016 to 2017, Pravesh Wahi served as the chairman of the standing committee in the North Corporation.

• During his political career, Pravesh Wahi served as the Leader of the House in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. He also represented the Rohini East ward and remained actively involved in civic decision-making processes.

• On 29 April 2026, Pravesh Wahi was elected as Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), where Monika Pant was elected deputy mayor.

• To win the mayoral race in MCD, a candidate needed to secure at least 137 votes. In the election, Pravesh secured about 156 votes, while the Congress candidate managed only nine votes.

• After his victory, in an interview Pravesh said,

We aim to provide good facilities to the people of Delhi…We will work to clear the piles of garbage inherited from the legacy of previous governments and ensure a clean Delhi.”
