Who is Yassine Benzia?
Yassine Benzia, born on September 8, 1994, in France, is a versatile professional footballer currently playing for Qarabag in the Azerbaijan Premier League and representing the Algeria national team. Starting his career at Olympique Lyonnais, Benzia impressed in 53 matches, scoring 6 goals and contributing to their 2012 Trophée des Champions victory.
In August 2015, he moved to Lille. Benzia began his international journey with France in youth levels, including the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup. However, in March 2016, he received FIFA’s approval to switch allegiance to the Algerian Football Federation. Hailed as the next Karim Benzema during his time at Lyon’s academy, Benzia has embarked on a varied career, representing clubs such as Lille, Fenerbahce, and Olympiakos before joining Azerbaijani side Qarabag.
Benzia’s current season has been highly productive, with 13 goals in 41 appearances, notably shining in the Europa League.
