Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced plans to restore the bridge that collapsed due to a ship colliding with it and led to the closure of the Port of Baltimore, one of the largest ports on the east coast of the United States.

Moore said in his report: “We need to clear the canal and restore ship traffic to the port, as the health of Maryland’s economy and the national economy depends on it,” noting that “Baltimore is the largest port in the country for shipping automobiles and agricultural equipment.”

He added: “We have to build the Francis Scott Key Bridge again, and this work will not take hours, days, or weeks. We have a long road ahead of us that we understand and prepare for.”

Moore pointed out “the necessity of recovering the bodies of the six victims and assisting all those affected by the crisis, including 8,000 dock workers at the Port of Baltimore.”

The bridge collapsed last Tuesday after a Singaporean container ship collided with it.
