A look at Tadhg O’Shea’s career

Tadhg is the retained rider for Emirati owner-breeder Khalid Khalifa Al Naboodah, whose Purebred Arabians are trained by Ernst Oertel, and the stable jockey for Seemar at Zabeel Stables.

O’Shea would go on to become a historical figure after winning eleven jockey championships.

With his winning combination of Laurel River, he capped off an amazing journey on Saturday by winning the Dubai World Cup by eight lengths; the largest margin in the race’s 29-year history.

O’Shea’s victory in the Dubai World Cup on Saturday was the cherry on the cake for an already remarkable career. Having recorded 779 victories to date, he stands alone as the most successful jockey in the UAE all time. This season, he has become the UAE champion jockey-elect for a record-tying 12 times.

Having competed in the major race twice, O’Shea rode Remorse to sixth place in 2022 and ninth place the following year.

After the first furlong, O’Shea established Laurel River in front with a strong break from the widest draw of 12 runners. Turning for home, he was ten lengths ahead of the pursuing pack and ultimately finished eight and a half lengths ahead of both the $20 million Saudi Cup winner Senor Buscador and the victor of last year’s Ushba Tesoro.

His target is this Thursday and Friday, when there will be the final two local meetings in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
