About Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

The Westminster Dog Show has been entertaining fans of well-groomed puppies and dogs since 1877, making it the second-oldest continually held sports event in the United States behind the Kentucky Derby.

Every year, around 3,000 dogs and their handlers compete in the legendary exhibition. The major competition focuses on how well purebred dogs meet their breed’s requirements.

Dogs from all backgrounds compete in the Masters Agility Championship and Masters Obedience Championship. Of course, Best in Show is the true highlight of the event. The winning dog is picked from the seven group winners. Each group consists of breeds with similar characteristics.

Westminster spans two days and nights. During the day, the dogs compete with other dogs of their breed at Piers 92 and 94. Every Best of Breed (BOB) winner progresses to the Group level.
