Who is Alfie Gilchrist?
Alfie Gilchrist is an English professional footballer who plays center-back or right-back for Premier League team Chelsea. The 20-year-old was born on November 28, 2003 in Kingston upon Thames, London, England. The centre-back stands 1.83 m (6 ft 0 in) tall.
A look at Alfie Gilchrist’s career so far
Gilchrist is living his dream, playing for the dream club he has been a fan of since he was a kid. He started his career at local sides Old Isleworthians Youth F.C. and Queens Park Rangers, playing as a right-winger and central midfielder in his early career. He then joined Chelsea at the under-11 level in 2014 and was played as a center-back.
Gilchrist signed his first professional deal in November of 2020. In the 2021-22 season, he led the academy squad to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals and won the Under-18 Premier League Cup. He took over as captain of the Under-23s in February 2023 and was nominated for the PL2 Player of the Season award for the 2022-23 season.
Gilchrist was picked as a substitute in a Premier League match against Manchester United on May 26, 2023. Additionally, he was included in the Chelsea pre-season tour squad in preparation for the 2023-24 season, and came on as a replacement at halftime.
On September 19, 2023, he signed a new deal with the club that runs until June 2025. The youngster made his senior debut, subbed on in stoppage time, in a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on December 27.
His first debut for the senior squad occurred on January 6, 2024, in Chelsea’s 4-0 FA Cup defeat of Preston North End.
