Some Lesser Known Facts About Raj K. Purohit

• Raj K. Purohit was born in a Rajasthani family and was groomed in right-wing politics from the Jana Sangh period before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

• Purohit later settled in Mumbai and made the city his permanent home and political workplace. He emerged as a prominent North Indian and migrant Rajasthani leader within Mumbai and South Mumbai BJP circles.

• He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly five times during his political career. He represented the Mumbadevi Assembly constituency continuously from 1990 to 2009.

• He was elected once from the Colaba Assembly constituency for the term from 2014 to 2019. Raj Purohit also served as Mumbai BJP president from September 2010 to June 2013.

• During his tenure in the Maharashtra government, he served as a cabinet minister handling the housing department.

• From 2014 to 2019, he worked as the BJP’s chief whip in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He was known for coordinating with leaders from Congress and NCP and maintaining working relations across political parties.
