Türkiye stands for peace and stability in the Aegean region. It is important to show determination and will in resolving long-standing problems. As Day.Az reports, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated this in an interview with the Greek publication Kathimerini on the eve of the visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Ankara.

The Turkish leader drew attention to Ankara’s efforts to resolve differences and conflicts in various parts of the world and called on Athens to take decisive steps to “ensure long-term peace on both sides of the Aegean Sea.”

“It is much easier to destroy than to build and skillfully solve problems. It is important to remove the barrier of bias in interstate relations. The only thing that is needed for this is to concentrate on results and take sincere historical steps,” Erdogan said.

The Turkish President praised the post-2020 efforts to reduce tensions with Greece.

The politician recalled that Ankara provided assistance against the backdrop of large-scale forest fires in Greece, and Athens in 2023 sent humanitarian aid and rescuers to the zone of devastating earthquakes with the epicenter in the province of Kahramanmaraş. “These mutual gestures of goodwill contributed to the re-improvement of relations between our countries. Turkey is ready for further steps towards rapprochement with Greece,” Erdogan assured.
