Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have begun developing a feasibility study (TES) for a project to integrate energy systems and lay a high-voltage cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.

As Day.Az reports on Friday, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev announced this at a briefing.

“Preliminary work has been carried out with the countries of the European Union, which have expressed interest in purchasing clean electricity. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have signed an agreement to lay a high-voltage cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, which will allow us to supply clean renewable energy to premium markets. We are talking about a fairly large amount of investment “, – he said.

The minister explained that the project involves using the wind potential of the Caspian zone and the Aral zone for export supplies of electricity.

“We have now begun to develop a feasibility study for the project, in accordance with which the construction period will be determined. It is planned to obtain preliminary results from the feasibility study by the end of the year,” added Satkaliev.

Let us recall that on May 1, within the framework of the Tashkent International Investment Forum, the heads of the ministries of energy of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation on interconnection of the energy systems of the republics.

The purpose of the signed memorandum is to determine the basic conditions of cooperation within the framework of the implementation of the project on interconnection of the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The document assumes that the participants intend to explore the possibilities of connecting energy systems by laying a high-voltage cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea and on the territory of other countries with the implementation of the most optimal, from a technical and economic point of view, trade in “green” energy from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
