• Amit Segal is a renowned Israeli journalist, born in Haifa and raised in Ofra.

• His father, Hagai Segal is also an Israeli journalist, who was a part of an Israel terrorist organization, Jewish Underground.

• In 1980s, his father was convicted for illegal weapons possession and causing grievous bodily harm, and served two years of a three-year prison sentence.

• In 1999, at the age of 17, Segal began his professional journalism career as an education report at a local newspaper, Kol Ha’ir.

• In 2021, Amit Segal published his first book titled, The Story of Israeli Politics. According to some reports, about ten thousand copies were sold in the first 48 hours.

• Form the past few years, he is writing a monthly column for the The Wall Street Journal.

• In April 2025, he published a daily English-language newsletter titled It’s Noon in Israel.

• In October 2025, Amit published his first English book titled, A Call at 4AM: Thirteen Prime Ministers and the Crucial Decisions that Shaped Israeli Politics.

• In April 2026, during the ongoing conflicts between Iran and Israel-USA conflicts, Amit came into news due to his reporting on the rescue mission of the F-15 airman from Iran.

• Amit was linked to the incident because many social media users pointed out that he was among the first journalists, who shared the details about the missing U.S. pilot. The two F-15 crew members reportedly went down in Iran. One was immediately rescued, but the other was missing for a few hours, making him a suspect in Iran. Additionally, while the U.S. was making efforts to rescue the pilot, sensitive information about just one pilot’s rescue went viral.

• On 6 April 2026, President Donald Trump strongly criticised the alleged leak. He called it a threat to their national security and said they were working to identify the person responsible. He said,

It became a much more difficult operation because a leaker leaked that we have one, we’ve rescued one, but there’s another one out there that we’re trying to get. So, actually, the country of Iran put out a major notice offering a very big award for anybody who captures the pilot. So in addition to a hostile, very talented, very good, very evil military, we had millions of people trying to get an award, so we have to find that leaker, because that’s a sick person.”

The person that did the story will go to jail if he doesn’t say, and that doesn’t last long. We’re going to go to the media company that released it, and we’re going to say, ‘National security. Give it up or go to jail.’”
