At 17, Srivastava made history in September 2023 as the first Mexican-Indian American to be crowned Miss Teen USA. However, she disclosed that the choice to relinquish her crown came after months of inner turmoil.

In her Instagram post, Srivastava stated, “After careful thought, I have chosen to resign because my personal values no longer align with the organization’s path.”

“Though it’s not how I expected my reign to end, I’m eager to continue advocating for education and acceptance, begin applying to colleges, and share new projects on ‘That’s Fan Behavior’ with my loyal followers,” she continued.

Miss Teen USA Release Statement

The Miss Teen USA organization accepted her resignation and announced that a new titleholder would be selected soon.

“We respect and support UmaSofia’s choice to step down. Our titleholders’ well-being is our priority. We’re reviewing our transition plans and will soon crown the new Miss Teen USA,” the organization said in an Instagram statement.

The reasons behind Srivastava’s resignation remain unclear, but her departure has sparked speculation about the organization’s internal environment, with reports indicating that she faced a toxic work culture.

UmaSofia Srivastava had a remarkable journey leading to her Miss Teen USA crown. She first became Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2023 and was the first New Jersey representative to win the national title.

Beyond her pageant success, Srivastava is an aspiring UN ambassador, actively working with the Lotus Petal Foundation to support underprivileged children in India with education, nutrition, and healthcare.

She authored “The White Jaguar,” a book available in English, Spanish, Hindi, and French, all languages she speaks fluently. Through her blog, “That’s Fan Behavior,” she shares her experiences as a woman of color and discusses current events.

A skilled pianist, she also donates 1,000 books to inner-city children in New Jersey through the Bridge of Books Foundation.

In her school life, Srivastava is a member of the National Honor Society, co-founder of a diversity and inclusion campaign, and an active participant in Mock Trials and Model UN.

She has more than 13,000 followers on Instagram which goes by the name@umasofias, where she connects with her audience and offers insights into her life and passions. Srivastava plans to start her college application process soon.
