Speaking out on the subject, he predicted that the electoral bond issue will pick up far more traction than it has now and it’s going to get really serious. He also added that it is now widely acknowledged that this is the largest scam not just in India but globally.

Who is Parakala Prabhakar?

Parakala Prabhakar is a renowned Indian political economist and social commentator. He has been in the news because he called electoral bonds the world’s biggest scam.

He was born into a Telugu Brahmin family on 2nd January 1959, in Narsapuram, Andhra Pradesh, India. His father is Parakala Seshavatharam, a Congress politician from Narasapuram who served in three consecutive Cabinets in Andhra Pradesh. On the other hand, his mother is Parakala Kalikamba, who was an MLA in the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly.

After completing his schooling and graduation, Parakala Prabhakar completed his MA and M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He eventually earned his PhD at the London School of Economics.

Prabhakar is married to Nirmala Sitharaman, who currently serves in Narendra Modi’s cabinet as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs. Together, they have one daughter.

He is currently 65 years old. While his net worth isn’t known, his wife declared a net worth of about ₹ 2.5 crore in her affidavit when she contested the Rajya Sabha polls in 2016.

His career

From July 2014 until June 2018, Parakala Prabhakar was employed by the Andhra Pradesh government as a communications advisor at the cabinet level. He was the host of eminent current affairs talk shows on prominent Andhra Pradesh television networks, such as Namaste Andhra Pradesh on NTV and Pratidhwani on ETV2.

Parakala made a major contribution to the early creation of the Praja Rajyam Party while serving as its spokesman and founding general secretary before joining the state administration. Before joining the Praja Rajyam Party in the early 2000s, he had served as the spokesperson for the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh branch.
