The Merdi Sihombing Collection Stuns Again at the 2024 Melbourne Fashion Festival – 2024-03-29 10:56:01

jpnn.comJAKARTA – Indonesian traditional fashion designer Merdi Sihombing has made another brilliant achievement at the prestigious event, Melbourne Fashion Festival 2024.

For the second time, Merdi Sihombing was trusted to appear in the Global Indigenous Runway as part of the PayPal – Melbourne Fashion Festival, which this time took place at the Melbourne Museum in Australia.

Merdi presented his latest collection featuring the Batik & Purun motif which is the result of a unique collaboration between him and leading batik makers from Banyuwangi.

These new batik motifs are made by combining the uniqueness of Banyuwangi Batik with natural coloring techniques from endemic plants in the area.

“The motifs in my collection at this year’s event are a development of motifs that are traditionally known in the batik repertoire in Banyuwangi. “I made a breakthrough to create a stunning three-dimensional effect,” said Merdi in a written statement on Wednesday (27/3).

Merdi admitted that he used a trick of combining woven fabric from the Dobby ATBM loom, which was then made into batik and given beautiful embroidery on several parts.

“The design lines of my collection this time have a tailoring nuance so they are visible chic and elegant. A feminine touch is added through the collar ruffles or a matching colored scarf,” said Merdi.

Apart from being in the spotlight with his latest collection, Merdi Sihombing also amazed the audience with his performance of singing the song Indonesia Pusaka in keroncong rhythm.
