The Cuban regime has decided to extend until June 30 the non-commercial importation of food, toiletries, medicines and medical supplies.

This tariff-free measure applies to products that enter the country via passengers as accompanied luggage, according to Resolution 94 of 2024 issued by the Ministry of Finance and Prices (MFP). The government provision will come into force on April 1.

In a context of economic, social and political crisis, with food shortages, inflation and blackouts, this decision is crucial. The massive protests in several Cuban towns show popular unrest.

In addition, the permit to import high-power power plants is extended until June 30, and the import of medicines and medical supplies in original packaging is authorized.

Resolution 60/2024 of the General Customs of the Republic establishes the valuation by weight and settlement of customs duties for shipments destined for natural persons.

It should be remembered that, since the outbreak of July 11, 2021, the regime has successively extended this measure of importing food, medicine and hygiene products without tariffs, in order to make up for the general deficit of products in the country, which has has been caused by the failed economic policies that the dictatorship has implemented for more than 60 years, blaming the wrongly called “blockade” of the United States for the evils experienced on the island.
