On 17 February 2017, Santoshi was sentenced to a two year jail sentence by a senior civil judge at Jamnagar in a check bounce case. According to the original complaint against the filmmaker, an indutrialist claimed that he lent Rs. 2 crore to Rajkumar to make a film and later the filmmaker gave him 10 cheques of Rs 10 lakh each. When the 10 cheques returned due to lack of funds in the bank account, the industrialist had issued a legal notice under the Negotiable Instruments Act in 2017 after Santoshi was not able to return the money.
