Some Lesser Known Facts About Omar Hamid

• After passing the CSS exams, Omar became an ASP in the police force in 2003.

• He was initially assigned to the Garden Police Headquarters located in Karachi. During gang warfare, he had served in the dangerous Lyari neighborhood of Karachi.

• He has majorly worked in both the Sindh Police’s Counterterrorism department and Pakistan’s Intelligence Bureau.

• On July 5, 1997, his father, Shahid Hamid, who was a bureaucrat and managing director of KESC (K-Electric), was assassinated, in the Defence Housing Authority neighborhood of Karachi, along with his driver named Ashraf Brohi, and his bodyguard, Khan Akbar.

• On May 12, 2015, Saulat Mirza, who is a convicted Pakistani murderer, was hanged in Machh jail after he was found guilty and given the death penalty by the court.

• Omar Hamid has served as a police officer for seventeen years. In 2011, he was also put on a Taliban hit list while he was heading the Karachi’s counterterrorism cell.

• After that, he left the police force for about five years to write his first three novels in London.

• Omar went back to Karachi and became a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in the Sindh police’s counterterrorism division.

• Based on his experiences as a Police officer and as a counterterrorism specialist, he wrote a crime thriller book titled The Prisoner (2013) while he was on sabbatical. The book became a bestseller in India and Pakistan.

• A few of his other books includes The Spinner’s Tale (2015), The Party Worker (2017), The Fix (2019), and Betrayal (2021).

• In March 2019, his novel The Party Worker’s Netflix adaptation was signed.

• His role was portrayed by the actor Aditya Uppal in the Indian spy thriller film Dhurandhar (2025), which is inspired by Operation Lyari.
