- Laljit Singh Bhullar was born and grew up in Patti, Tarn Taran.
- He belongs to a family of farmers. Before joining politics, Bhullar ran a commission shop at the grain market in Pati.
- Bhullar joined local politics in the early 2010s, where he was a member of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
- In 2019, inspired by the personality of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, he joined AAP.
- In an interview, he revealed that in February 2019, he launched a campaign in support of an AAP candidate for the municipal council of Patti. He added that on the day of polling, he was detained and tortured by the police. Soon, the AAP senior leaders nominated him as the Halka in-charge.
- In the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election, Laljit nominated him as their candidate. He ran successfully and defeated four-time SAD MLA Adesh Partap Singh Kairon and one-time Congress MLA Harminder Singh Gill.

- After winning the election, he became a cabinet minister in Bhagwant Mann’s government as a greenhorn Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) (first-time).
- In Mann’s ministry, he was given charge of the transport department and hospitality department.
- In June 2022, one of the early initiatives he took in Punjab included improving the government bus transport facilities and breaking the monopoly of private bus operators between IGI Airport and different cities of Punjab.
- In 2024, Laljit Singh Bhullar contested for the Lok Sabha seat from the Khadoor Sahib seat as an AAP candidate.
- During the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, he came into controversy for his derogatory remarks targeting the Ramgarhia and Suniyar communities, and called them Ghuli gharh. He faced a lot of criticism from the opposition parties.
- However, he later apologised to the Ramgarhia and Suniyar communities. Despite the apology, Ramgarhia community organizations remained unsatisfied and demanded Bhullar’s removal from the cabinet and called for a boycott of AAP candidates across Punjab.
- In March 2026, Laljit Singh Bhullar was arrested by police from Mandi Gobindgarh, in connection with the suicide case of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa.
- On 22 March 2026, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa’s family registered an FIR against Laljit Singh Bhullar. They accused him of threatening Randhawa with violent consequences if he refused to cancel a tender and reissue it in Bhullar’s father’s name.
- On 23 March 2026, after the Bullar’s arrest, several ministers of other political parties demanded a CBI investigation of the matter.
- After the suicide video of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, in which he was consuming Celphos (aluminum phosphide) poison, and accusing Laljit Singh Bhullar of severe harassment, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asked Bhullar to resign immediately.
