During his tenure as the Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh formally apologized to the villagers in Madhya Pradesh after falsely accusing them for dumping of Carbide waste. During the apology, he also admitted that the lethal waste was smuggled out during the night hours from the Carbide factory and dumped in the area.
• Charged with Defamation case
In 2019, Vivek Doval, son of the son of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, filed a defamation case against Jairam Ramesh because of the defamatory statements made by Jairam after the magazine named Caravan Magazine published a defamatory article against him. The complaint was filed in January 2019 and Jairam was granted a bail in May 2019. Later, Ramesh gave a formal apology to Vivek and claimed that his remarks were based on a news article.
